A Print/Online Overview Chapter

    A Print/Online Overview Chapter
The goal here is to deliver a large doc set that seems smaller than it actually is, in both print/PDF and online formats. To accomplish this for print/PDF we produce a small print/PDF guide with general/overview material only (easy). For online, we combine this same content with detailed topics that are not shown in the TOC (straightforward enough). These topics are standalone: they authored linearly in a chapter, they are not related to one another, and so should not have navigation buttons in online output. That’s something that can’t be done out of the box in ePublisher and is the challenge behind this project.
Starting points:
Two book files would be used: one to assemble the print/online chapters into the print/PDF deliverable, and the other to assemble the print/online chapters and the online-only chapters into the online deliverable.
(The book setup here has been simplified a bit, only the online book file is here. The other main thing is that you’d need to utilize conditional text to make the online-only reference content links not appear in the print/PDF guide.
This chapter serves as the sample print/online “overview” content. So without further ado, let’s get started.
